What is lymphedema?

Lymphedema refers to a symptom of swelling due to the accumulation of excess water and protein (lymph fluid) in the skin and subcutaneous tissue due to lymph circulation disorder. Due to lymphatic vessel blockage or dysfunction, severe swelling of arms and legs appears immediately after surgery in about 30% of cancer surgery patients.

Types of lymphedema

It can be divided into primary and secondary lymphedema.

Primary lymphedema

  • Simple, Hereditary lymphedema

Secondary lymphedema

  • Post cancer surgery
